To build a better society or civilization, surely the works should be divided among the people living. This is how Indian people lived perfectly without discrimination. Later,a few thousands years ago, based on the profession people were classified into four castes or varnas viz Kshatriyas(warriors & kings),Brahmins(ministers & priests),Vaishyas(traders & money lenders), Shudras(labourers & servants).

Enough of history, lets come back to present India. Its no surprise casteism still do exist in form of BC,OBC,SC,ST & general or FC category. The leaders & reformers  of independence era said almost all General category people are rich, educated, intellectual people and they never gave equal respects to dalits(Shudras at that time);treated them as untouchables;used their man powers.

Well, I would agree with them in many cases. Dalits were never treated as humans.Their life should have been miserable. So, Indian leaders decided to bring some schemes to uplift their community.Their intentions were correct. But, It gave birth to the monster called RESERVATION. It is quota based schemes where BC,OBC,SC/ST,General or FC are provided with some percentage of allotments for their categories.Reservation is in many of important sectors like government jobs,education,..etc.

reservation

There are many sectors to discuss reservation. But,I contain myself to education sector. The most affected people by this schemes are poor General category people  which includes brahmins,Thattar, Porkollar, Kannar Karumar Kollar, Thacher, Kalthacher Kamsala and Viswabrahmin(In tamil nadu).Lets see how.

We studied India is a secular country. On contrary, they insist students to provide caste certificate.  After finishing 12th grade, colleges are allocated based on caste.Yes,BC,OBC,SC,ST are allocated certain percentages. Those category people compete with their category and gets their seat. And they can even compete in general category quota.i.e. If other category student gets seat in general category then he automatically saves a seat in his category.

reservation

And the forms for engineering college is Rs.250 for SC/ST,Rs.500 for others;medical college no fee for SC/ST, Rs.500 for others;AIEEE,they double the  rate as SC/ST.In this case poor BCs,OBCs too get screwed. And irony is each and every category has certain cut-offs.For SC/ST its enough if they took some low marks,OBC,BC a little higher and generals as usual higher than everybody.

Relegate Reservation

And this doesn’t end here. It continues in campus interviews, other aptitude exams like bank exams,Civil service exams and list goes on.

And they give explanation that generals have ruled them for many years,so,its their turn. Why should these people be punished for the crimes done by their category people several hundred years back?

If this is the justice, then, should a son be sentenced for crimes done by his late father?

Do they  have any proof of who ill-treated whom?

They simply say all general category people humiliated others. What about kshatriyas, the rulers, didn’t they humiliate? If this is a punishment for past crimes, then why kshatriyas are not suffering at present?? I agree they ill-treated but not all of them. Now,every generals are suffering, especially poor ones.

Some institutions are kept out of the purview of reservation viz

  1. Homi Bhabha National Institute, Mumbai and its ten constituent units, namely:
    1. Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Trombay
    2. Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research, Kalpakkam
    3. Raja Ramanna Centre for Advanced Technology, Indore
    4. Institute for Plasma Research, Gandhinagar
    5. Variable Energy Cyclotron Centre, Kolkata
    6. Saha Institute of Nuclear Physics, Kolkata;
    7. Institute of Physics, Bhubaneshwar
    8. Institute of Mathematical Sciences, Chennai
    9. Harish-Chandra Research Institute, Allahabad
    10. Tata Memorial Centre, Mumbai
  2. Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Mumbai
  3. North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences, Shillong
  4. National Brain Research Centre, Manesar, Gurgaon
  5. Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research, Bangalore
  6. Physical Research Laboratory, Ahmedabad

reservation

The reason is they want development. Saying this, please don’t come to a conclusion, that, I am saying generals are intelligent and others  are dumb. All category has genius and dumb people. Put a filter a take genius alone and let dumb try harder in their next chance. So, merit system always provides you success and development. If these institutions can run successfully without reservation, then why can’t in other education sectors ???

Another point I wish to add is, using reservation generals are getting sharper easily and others are getting sharper at snail pace. Couldn’t able to understand? let me explain.By reservation they are setting the bar high for generals. So, they try & work harder for their limited space. On other hand they are setting the bar low for SC/ST people. So, these people aim low.Eventually they struggle in bigger stages.(Not all of them. talented can come out from any category and at anytime).

Do black  people who served as slaves for whites get benefit like this in western countries??

Do Brits suffer these kind of isolation for capturing other country’s  territories in the past??

This system is like feeding fish to SC/ST. I want to them to learn how to fish themselves. So, make every sector as merit based system(at least in education) and see the progress.Initially SC/ST will surely suffer with raised bar. After 2 or 3 generations they will bloom like flowers.

The scheme has lost its purpose.Politicians are using this reservations  to attract votes. In name of caste free India, please, don’t isolate general category people. Its like mother India is feeding more for her other category children.Generals are left to starve. They too belong to India. If her intention is to screw the people.Let her screw everyone equally. If not feed everyone equally.

reservation

Can we substitute caste based reservation by salary based reservation?

Separating poor & rich in India is a Everest task. So, its not possible. Our only options is go by merits. If not in all sectors,at least in education alone. I am saying again, in name of caste-free India, please, don’t isolate generals. Let us Relegate Reservation & Recommendation from India.

Relegate Reservation

Note: I am not only against caste based reservation but against caste itself. These are my own individual opinions.

This was very interesting and in-depth explanation of reservation. In the States, we struggle with this this in regards to African Americans, Native Americans , and now the immigrants from Mexico and Central America. We have tried programs like Head Start for younger children to try to prepare them for school to compete with other more affluent students. Those programs get cut when money is tight. Education is the great equalizer but it is not perfect. Some kids come with so many experiences and others come with empty bellies! We keep trying because it is the right thing to do….but it is discouraging.Thank you for your insight and your tender heart! Namaste….Anne

You are right…..we will keep on trying….One day every one will be treated equally;given equal chances….not only in India;not only in states but in the whole world…Until then we will try…..thanks for your thoughts…. 🙂
